International Labour Day celebration at Tata Workers Union

 

Tata Workers’ Union celebrated the Inter National Labour Day on Sunday, the 1st May,2022 in the Michael John Auditorium. Mr Rajesh Prasad, Dy labour Commissioner, Jamshedpur graced the occasion as the  Chief Guest and Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice-President ( Safety, Health and Sustainability), Tata Steel Ltd. Was the Guest of Honour. The function was attended by Mr Zubin Palia, Mr G P Mishra, Mr Rahul Dubey and Mr Utkarsh Bardwaj – all   Senior Executives from Tata Steel. President, Dy President, General  Secretary, Office Bearers and Executive Committee members of the Union were also present. Mr Jaideo Upadhyay, Director, Michael John Centre for Research and Human Resource Development was also present.

At the outset of the programme, after the National Anthem, a newly updated website of Tata Workers Union, was launched by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. The website contains all the basic information regarding Tata Workers’ Union and provides a platform for the viewers to interact with the Union. Mr Sanjay Singh, Vice-President of the Union explained in brief the features of the website.

Mr Sanjiv Kumar Choudhary “Tunnu” welcomed the guests and briefed about the history of May  Day. He said the Union is committed to protect the interest of the employees as well as the Organization. He also said that during the last two years despite the pandemic situation in the World, we worked together and excelled. We will have to face a number of challenges in future and we will do well with spirit of working together, unity and hard work.

Mr Satish Kumar Singh, General Secretary, Tata Workers’ Union explained the events which led to the birth of May Day. He said that May Day is symbol of workers’ unity, responsibility and patriotism. He further mentioned about the formation of Tata Workers Union, its journey of hundred years and major achievements of the Union. He narrated some recent achievements of the Union like Covid Protection Scheme, change in the registration system and appointment of 500 registered relations.

Mr Sanjiv Paul, the Guest of Honour explained the future plan of Tata Steel and said that Tata Steel has increased its production capacity from 5 MT to 20 MT in the last  20 years. In the next one decade it will rise to 40 MT. But along with this we will have to think about the load on environment and skill requirements for the employees. He also spoke on the duties of working class and laid emphasis on safety during the work.

Mr Rajesh Prasad, DLC, Jamshedpur and Chief Guest on the occasion said the Tata Workers’ Union has successfully played its role of protecting workers rights and completed its 100 glorious years of existence. He also explained some features of the new labour laws.
